SUPPORTING WALES AIR AMBULANCE

Ride with us and support Wales Air Ambulance

On Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 October, the Brecon Mountain Railway will welcome representatives from Wales Air Ambulance for a special fundraising weekend.

Our decision to support the charity follows a recent emergency near the railway, when the Wales Air Ambulance helicopter used our newly completed car park as a landing site. From there, its specialist medical team was able to reach a casualty nearby.

Seeing the service operating first-hand brought home just how important suitable landing locations and rapid access are during a medical emergency. It also demonstrated the vital role Wales Air Ambulance plays within communities such as ours, where rural locations and challenging terrain can make reaching patients more difficult.

Following that incident, we wanted to find a practical way to support the charity and help visitors learn more about its remarkable work.

£1 donated for every passenger

For every person who travels with us during the weekend, the Brecon Mountain Railway will donate £1 to Wales Air Ambulance.

Passengers can also support the charity by:

  • Adding an optional donation when booking their railway tickets
  • Making a donation at the railway on the day
  • Purchasing Wales Air Ambulance merchandise from the visiting team

Every donation collected through bookings and at the railway will be passed directly to the charity.

Representatives from Wales Air Ambulance will be at the railway throughout the weekend to meet visitors, explain more about the service and answer questions about its lifesaving work across Wales.

Bringing hospital-standard care to the patient

Wales Air Ambulance provides advanced, lifesaving medical care throughout Wales, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Its specialist crews can bring treatments normally associated with a hospital emergency department directly to critically ill or injured patients. This can include administering anaesthesia, providing blood transfusions and carrying out emergency procedures at the scene before taking patients to the most appropriate specialist hospital.

This service is particularly important in rural and mountainous areas, where reaching patients quickly can be challenging and specialist hospital care may be some distance away.

In 2026, Wales Air Ambulance celebrates its 25th anniversary. Since its first mission in 2001, the service has attended more than 57,000 missions and has developed into a nationwide operation with four helicopters and a fleet of rapid response vehicles.

The charity must raise £13 million every year to maintain its aircraft and vehicles. It relies on charitable donations to achieve this, making fundraising events and individual contributions vitally important.

Enjoy a journey and help save lives

A visit to the Brecon Mountain Railway is already a wonderful way to enjoy the autumn scenery of the Bannau Brycheiniog. Over this special weekend, your journey will also help support a service that has been there for thousands of people at the most critical moments of their lives—including those within our own local community.

Join us on 24 or 25 October, meet the Wales Air Ambulance representatives and help us raise as much as possible for this remarkable Welsh charity.

Book your journey in advance, add a donation if you are able, and help us support Wales Air Ambulance.

Ride with us. Donate if you can. Help save lives across Wales.
