MORE STEAM DAYS ON THE BRECON MOUNTAIN RAILWAY THIS SUMMER

Smiling family in a train cabin with the number 2.

From 25 May until the end of September, Brecon Mountain Railway will be running steam trains 6 days a week, closing only on Fridays for maintenance. That means even more chances to enjoy a trip into Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) National Park by steam.

Trains depart from Pant station at 10:30, 12:30 and 14:30. It is a steady run up into the hills, with time to take in the views and enjoy the heritage locomotives at work.

You do not have to be travelling to call in for something to eat or drink. Pant Tea Rooms are open from 9:30 to 14:30 daily, serving drinks, light meals and cakes. Pontsticill café is open from 11:00 to 16:00, a handy stop if you are walking or exploring the reservoir area.

The gift shop at Pant is open from 9:30 to 16:00 and stocks a wide range of local gifts, books and railway souvenirs. Whether you are planning a family day out by steam, or just dropping by for a coffee and a look around, there is plenty to see and do.

Experience the Magic of Brecon Mountain Railway

Embark on a nostalgic journey aboard our vintage steam locomotives, offering breathtaking views of the Bannau Brycheiniog. Travel along the historic route of the original Brecon & Merthyr Railway, which first opened in the 19th century and closed in 1964.

Our line runs from Pant, 3 miles north of Merthyr Tydfil, to Torpantau, taking you through some of the most stunning scenery Wales has to offer.  Pass through lush woodland, past sparkling reservoirs to Torpantau which sits at 400m above sea level.  Marvel at the mountains and view down the valley.
