Embark on a nostalgic journey aboard our vintage steam locomotives, offering breathtaking views of the Bannau Brycheiniog. Travel along the historic route of the original Brecon & Merthyr Railway, which first opened in the 19th century and closed in 1964. Our line runs from Pant, 3 miles north of Merthyr Tydfil, to Torpantau, taking you through some of the most stunning scenery Wales has to offer.
The Journey
A Scenic Adventure
Starting at Pant, our railway journey takes you into the heart of the Bannau Brycheiniog National Park. Here’s what you can expect:
- Pant to Torpantau: Depart from our main station in Pant, travel through the beautiful Pontsticill, and continue along the full length of the Taf Fechan Reservoir.
- Pontsticill Station and Reservoir Stop: Enjoy a 35-minute stop at Pontsticill, where you can stretch your legs, take in the picturesque views, and capture memorable photos.
- Climb to Torpantau: Ascend to the summit of the original railway line at Torpantau, high in the Brecon Beacons, before returning to Pant.
Total Journey Time: Approximately 1 hour and 40 minutes, including the stop at Pontsticill. See our timetable page for full details
