Stations and Facilities at Brecon Mountain Railway

Overview
Brecon Mountain Railway has three main stations along the line, each with its own feel and facilities. Most visitors start their journey at Pant, then travel by steam train to Pontsticill and Torpantau in the Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) landscape.

Pant Station
Pant Station, near Merthyr Tydfil, is the main departure point. There is free parking for cars and coaches, a large station building with ticket facilities, a shop and a tearoom. On many running days you can look into the workshop viewing area and see engines and carriages being maintained. This is the best place to join the train and begin your visit.

Pontsticill Station
Pontsticill is a country station beside the reservoir, where most trains pause part way through the journey. You will find a café, outdoor seating, views over the water and an adventure playground for children. It is a good place to stretch your legs, take photos and enjoy the scenery before rejoining the train.

Torpantau Station
Torpantau is the summit of the line, close to the site of the old railway tunnel. Facilities here are simpler and the stop is shorter, but the setting is more open and quiet, surrounded by hills and woodland.

Practical information
All stations are open on running days. Parking is free at Pant, with limited parking at the smaller stations. For detailed directions, public transport information and accessibility guidance, please see our Directions & Transport and Visitor Accessibility Guide pages.
