Discover South Wales by Steam: Brecon Mountain Railway Featured in Roam Wales Day Tour

If you’re looking for a fantastic way to experience some of the very best attractions South Wales has to offer, we’re delighted to be part of the “Castles, Mountains & Railways” day tour operated by Roam Wales.

This full-day guided adventure combines three of Wales’ greatest treasures – historic castles, spectacular mountain scenery and a journey aboard the Brecon Mountain Railway – making it the perfect introduction to the region for visitors from across the UK and beyond.

The tour includes a journey on the Brecon Mountain Railway, travelling alongside the stunning Pontsticill and Pentwyn Reservoirs into the heart of the Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) National Park. Our heritage steam trains follow part of the route of the former Brecon & Merthyr Railway, offering breathtaking views that are simply inaccessible by road.

Alongside the railway, guests also visit some of South Wales’ most iconic landmarks, with the benefit of an experienced local guide throughout the day. It’s an excellent option for visitors staying in Cardiff who want to explore beyond the city without the hassle of driving.

Whilst the tour offers a wonderful taste of what the Brecon Mountain Railway has to offer, many visitors tell us it leaves them wanting to return and spend even more time exploring the railway, our workshops, cafés, gift shop and the wider Brecon Beacons area.

Whether you join us through a Roam Wales tour or visit independently, we look forward to welcoming you aboard.
