Explore the Best of Steam and Scenic Trails: Train Rides with a Guided Walk at Brecon Mountain Railway

If you’re looking for a day out that blends heritage rail charm with the beauty of the Brecon Beacons, our Train Rides with a Guided Walk experiences are the perfect way to spend time outdoors in 2026.

At the Brecon Mountain Railway, we’ve teamed up once again with Walk Hay to bring you a series of guided walks paired with a scenic steam train journey. It’s an unforgettable combination of railway nostalgia, breathtaking landscapes, and expert local guidance that allows you to discover some of the hidden gems around the railway line and within the Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) National Park.

What to Expect

Your adventure begins at Pant Station, where you’ll climb aboard one of our heritage steam locomotives for a stunning ride into the heart of the national park. After that, it’s time to step off the train and into nature on a guided walk led by local expert Sarah Price from Walk Hay.

Sarah has carefully designed multiple routes throughout the year, each offering a unique experience, from forests and waterfalls to open fell tops and mountain views. Whether you’re a seasoned walker or simply enjoy gentle rambles in beautiful surroundings, there’s something here for you.
