BRECON MOUNTAIN RAILWAY RECRUITING OPERATIONS & ENGINEERING MANAGER

The Brecon Mountain Railway is entering an exciting new chapter, and we are now recruiting for a key leadership role to help guide the railway through its next phase of development.

We are seeking an Operations & Engineering Manager to join our team at Pant, Merthyr Tydfil.

This is a rare opportunity to take on a senior management role at one of Wales’ most popular heritage railways. The successful candidate will play a central role in the safe, efficient and compliant operation of the railway, while also helping to develop and enhance the visitor experience for the 50,000 passengers who travel with us each year.

An Exciting Time for the Railway

The role comes at a particularly exciting moment for the Brecon Mountain Railway. With the forthcoming integration with the Vale of Rheidol Railway, the railway is set to benefit from a period of investment, development and strategic growth.

Working closely with the senior management teams of both railways, the Operations & Engineering Manager will help deliver a long-term vision for the railway while maintaining the high standards of safety and professionalism expected across the heritage railway sector.

The Role

The Operations & Engineering Manager will oversee the day-to-day running of the railway’s operational and engineering activities. The role includes responsibility for:

  • Leading and managing the operational and engineering teams

  • Ensuring safe and compliant railway operations

  • Overseeing maintenance of locomotives, rolling stock and infrastructure

  • Managing operational planning and service delivery

  • Supporting the continued development and improvement of the railway

This is a hands-on leadership role that requires strong organisational skills, a commitment to safety, and a passion for heritage railways.

Working in a Spectacular Setting

The Brecon Mountain Railway operates through some of the most spectacular scenery in Wales, travelling from Pant, near Merthyr Tydfil, along the full length of the Taf Fechan Reservoir and into the heart of the Bannau Brycheiniog National Park.

The railway combines historic steam locomotives, heritage rolling stock and breathtaking scenery to create a unique visitor experience.

Location: Pant, Merthyr Tydfil
Salary: £40,000–£50,000 depending on experience
Contract: Full time, permanent
