2026 EVENTS

Welcome 2026 🎉

A sneak preview of what’s coming to the Brecon Mountain Railway

We’re busy finalising our full programme of events for 2026, but as a sneak preview, here are some of the highlights you can already start looking forward to. From family favourites and seasonal specials to brand-new themed weekends, 2026 is shaping up to be another fantastic year on the railway.

🚆 Winter Diesel Week – February Half Term

14–22 February 2026

Red diesel train at station with autumn trees, titled 'Winter Diesel Week 14th-22nd Feb 2026'.

During the winter months our steam locomotives undergo essential maintenance, so for February half term our heritage diesel locomotives take centre stage.

Trains run as a straight out-and-back journey (Pontsticill does not open during the winter), but you’ll still enjoy spectacular views across the National Park in its crisp winter best.

  • Heritage diesel haulage

  • Three trains a day

  • Café and shop open at Pant Station

  • Children travel for just £1

Wrap up warm and enjoy a very different – but equally atmospheric – railway experience.

🐰 Easter at the BMR

3–6 April 2026

Three men and a person in a rabbit costume standing beside a train labeled 'Mountain Railway.'

A firm family favourite returns for 2026 as we welcome back the Easter Bunny for four fun-filled days.

Expect plenty of seasonal cheer, including:

  • A railway-wide Easter Egg Hunt

  • A warm welcome at Pant Station

  • Steam trains, spring scenery and family fun

A perfect way to brush off the winter blues and leap into spring.

🥾 Guided Walks

Throughout 2026

Following the popularity of our guided walks in 2025, Sarah is back with six guided walks spread across the year.

With routes designed for different abilities, these events combine a scenic train journey with some of the most beautiful walking country in the Brecon Beacons.

👉 Full details and dates will be listed on our website.

🦅 Birds of Prey Weekends

9–10 May | 20–21 June | 12–13 September 2026

Two eagles flying over a steam train in a scenic hilly landscape.

We’re delighted to be teaming up with Wings of Wales for three special weekends in 2026.

At Pant Station, visitors can enjoy:

  • Meet-and-greet sessions with stunning birds of prey

  • Talks about conservation and exciting reintroduction plans

  • Flying demonstrations (weather permitting)

  • A fun ‘spot the bird’ activity along the line

A fantastic event for families and wildlife lovers alike.

🇺🇸 Independence Day Weekend

4–5 July 2026

Steam train in forest with 'Happy 4th of July' text overlay in red and blue.

With our American-built locomotives and rolling stock, it feels only right to celebrate Independence Day in true style.

Expect a stars-and-stripes themed weekend with plenty of character – and yes, there may even be a few cowboys around. More details coming soon!

🎃 Halloween

29–31 October 2026

Halloween proved hugely popular last year, and for 2026 we’re planning to build on that success with an improved, spookier experience.

Perfectly pitched for families, with plenty of atmosphere – full details to be revealed closer to the time.
