Accessibility Information for Visitors

We want everyone to enjoy their visit to the Brecon Mountain Railway. Our friendly staff are always happy to help with boarding, moving around stations, and making your journey as comfortable as possible — please just ask if you need assistance at any point during your visit. Below you’ll find details of our facilities and access arrangements so you can plan your trip with confidence.

Car Park

  • Level, firm surface with no obstructions.
  • Three marked accessible parking bays close to the entrance.
  • Drop-off point available directly outside the main entrance.
  • Wide double-door main entrance (1600mm).

Pant Station

  • Accessible toilet with handrails.
  • Ladies’ and gents’ toilets fitted with push-top taps.
  • Ticket Office counter height: 1100mm.
  • Entrance hall with seating available during busy times.
  • Good colour contrast throughout for improved visibility.
  • Café seating includes chairs with firm back support.
  • Space for wheelchairs and tables with good colour contrast.
  • Ramped access to the station platform with handrails.
  • Step-free route from the car park to the platform.
  • Easy, level access to the restaurant and gift shop.

 

The Train

  • Access to standard carriages involves two steps from the platform to the carriage balcony, and one additional step into the carriage.
  • A specially adapted carriage is available for manual wheelchairs, with ramped access (staff assistance required).
  • Important: For health and safety reasons, we can currently only carry manual, self-propelled wheelchairs. Powered or motorised chairs and scooters cannot be carried. We apologise for any inconvenience.

 

Torpantau Station

  • No facilities at this station, only a platform.
  • Not possible for wheelchairs users to board or leave train at present.

Pontsticill Station

  • No access for motor vehicles.
  • Level platform with ramps.
  • 30mm step into café.
  • Accessible toilet available for wheelchair users.

General

  • Assistance dogs are welcome
  • Mobile phone reception is not consistent, networks may vary.
